Second day

Yesterday was October 2nd, I wasn't able to write because I was a little busy.

Today I have to finish a practice, and deadline is today (oct 3rd). Its for the subject network services administration, I have to config several routers and do a script to prevent fails.

About yesterday, well, since 50 years have happened since Tlatelolco massacre, I didn't have to go to school, but I did have other things to do. I had an interview with Microsoft at Santa Fe, it's a really big place, all buildings around are huge!

The interview lasted around 1 hour, its divided into 3 stages, a technical one where I was told to solve a problem and do some coding, a stage to talk about my resume and some projects and finally a stage to do questions to my interviewer.

In the first part, I was given a simply linked list, in which I only knew the head pointer, and I was also given an integer n, which was the nth element of the list counting from the last element to first. (e.g. if list of 10 elements n=3, means the 7th element). So I had to return the total-n th element of the list.

I did solve it, but in the easy way, I'm not sure if that's enough for a company like Microsoft, the worst is that it wasn't even that hard, when I left, i realized a better way to solve it in one iteration, but well, let's see what happens.

In the 2nd and 3rd part it was mostly talking (the interview was fully in English). It happened that the interviewer works for the Office team,  (yep, word, power point, and so on) he's been there for 9 years now, which is great! And he works at Redmond, Washington. Microsoft's interviewers work at USA but they come to Mexico to do the interviews, that means the company takes a lot into account when it comes to hiring.

In three weeks or so, I'll have an answer.

So yes, that was basically the day!

Through a Glass Darkly

Yesterday (11/02) I watched a movie called "through a glass Darkly", it is movie made by the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman (one of my favorites). This movie is part of "trilogy" of movies that he filmed. The trilogy is made up of this movie (1961), Winter light (1963) and The silence (1963). They all have common aspects, and they talk about similar ideas, they are mostly related to the existence of a God and  "the silence of God". Religion, anxiety, doubt, ill, meaning of life, existence, these are essential points in these movies. These are movies which are slow for some, but that is because the point of his movies is not necessarily to entertain but to help to face the big problematics of men, those questions we all face once in our lives. "Is there a god?" "What is point of living?" and so on. That's why some people call Ingar Bergman "the last existentialist". In this particular movie, the plot goes aro...

Poetry

Today I was at Vasconcelos library, and I bumped into several interesting books, I found that there is a section with books in English, which will be helpful for us, and there are some grammar books too.    I spent more time than I would've liked to, reading some poems, but I realized that it would be great if we read some poems to practice our pronunciation and to learn some vocabulary. There was a book with English poems and their translations to spanish. Here are some poems I liked: WOMAN TO LOVER I am fire Stilled to water A wave Lifting from the abyss In my veins The moon-drawn tide rises Into a tree of flowers Scattered in sea-foam I am air Caught in a net The prophetic bird That sings in a reflected sky I am a dream before nothingness I am a crown of stars I am the way to die. Kathleen Raine .   This is the translation Two invocations of death I Death, I repent Of these hands and fe...

How to succeed in life

Have you ever been on your bed trying to sleep but not being able to, because you can't stop thinking about your future? Sometimes people spend much time thinking about success. But what is it exactly? I mean, what success is for me, is not necessarily the same for you. Is it? So, In order to answer this question, it's necessary to first clear that success is relative to every person.  For some, being successful means to be married, for other it means to have a safe job or maybe to travel around the world. At any rate, no matter what success is for you, to get what you want in life, you need to do some things... First of all, I think that, in order to succeed, you need to do something you like. Yes! there must be something you like to do, something you could do every single day. This is important because otherwise, you'll find it hard to do something you hate. Second thing is to keep your goals in mind, don't lose them, have them present everyda...
